A new monthly food pantry will open in Ingham this month, offering affordable food boxes to help community members who are doing it tough with the rising cost of living.
The Ingham ADRA Community Food Pantry will officially open on Friday 25th September from 9am to 11am at 8 Stallen Street, with food boxes containing more than $100 worth of food available for just $25.
The pantry will be operated by members of the local Adventist Church in partnership with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), with the intention of providing ongoing support to those experiencing financial hardship.
Organisers said the initiative comes at a time when the increasing cost of everyday essentials is placing additional pressure on many households.
The pantry is planned to operate on the last Friday of each month, providing the community with a regular source of affordable food. Fresh produce and bread may also be available, depending on supply at the time.
Food pantries have become an important resource across Australia, with similar services operating in Townsville, Ayr and Charters Towers, with the Townsville Food Pantry currently supports more than 250 families each week.
Organisers hope the new Ingham pantry will become an ongoing community resource for individuals and families who need a little extra support.
