School’s Out! Your Cassowary Coast Holiday Guide

School’s out from Saturday, 19th September to Monday, 5th October, but families won’t have to travel far to keep the kids entertained these spring holidays.  From messy science and pottery to fishing, markets and days by the beach, there is plenty happening across the Cassowary Coast over the two-week break.

Cassowary Coast Libraries

On Wednesday 23rd, children aged five and over can make Mini Plants at Innisfail Library, before designing their own library bag on Wednesday 30th September.

Mission Beach Library will host Clay Creations on Tuesday 22nd September and Snow Globes on Tuesday 29th September, while Tully Library has Beach Art Canvas for children aged seven and over on Thursday 24th September and Wind Chimes on Thursday 1st October.

Cardwell Library is getting particularly hands-on, with a Messy Science Lab on Wednesday 23rd September and Mini Masterpieces on Thursday 1st October.

Library activities are expected to fill quickly, with bookings essential by calling 1300 366 616 or visiting the Cassowary Coast Libraries website.

Big Days Out

The holidays kick off with the Kurrimine Beach Fishing Club Family Fun Day on Saturday, 19th September, while the Tropical Art Deco Festival will bring a range of activities to Innisfail across the opening weekend.

One of the highlights for families will be the Mini Rail Family Fun Day at Warrina Lakes from 10am to 2pm on Sunday 20th September.

Warrina Lakes will again be the place to be towards the end of the holidays when the free Tilapia Tournament returns from Thursday 1st October to Saturday 3rd October. Families can cast a line while helping remove the invasive pest fish from local waterways.

Further north, Cardwell will finish the holidays in a big way with the Cardwell Seafest Carnival running from Friday 2nd October to Sunday 4th October.

Saturday will also bring a Classic Car N’ Bike Show N’ Shine and the Cardwell Coast Guard Tropical Plant Expo to the Cardwell Foreshore.

Make Your Own Adventure

Mission Beach and South Mission Beach offer plenty of room for a beach day, while Wongaling Beach, Kurrimine Beach, Etty Bay and Cardwell Foreshore are other options for getting the kids outdoors.

For a slower day, Warrina Lakes is an easy family outing in Innisfail, while local playgrounds, walking tracks and foreshore areas offer a budget-friendly way to burn off some school holiday energy.

Families can also make a morning of the Mission Beach Markets at Ulysses Park on Sunday 20th September or Sunday 4th October.

With activities stretching from Cardwell to Innisfail and plenty of free options in between, the toughest part of these school holidays might just be deciding what to do first.
