Ingham State High School recently celebrated the magic of books, stories and imagination during Book Week 2026, with students and staff embracing the spirit of reading through a range of fun and engaging activities.
Students were invited to come dressed as a favourite character from a book or graphic novel, bringing stories to life throughout the school. A gold coin donation was also collected, with funds raised going towards purchasing new books for the school library.
The Spelling Bee provided another exciting highlight, challenging students and staff to showcase their spelling skills. Congratulations to Finn Johnson (Year 9), our overall student winner, and Ms Erin Costigan, who took out the staff competition.
Students who participated in the costume day or Spelling Bee received a ticket for the opportunity to win a 16GB Kindle. Congratulations to Seth Homewood (Year 11), who was the lucky winner.
Earlier this term, our Year 8 English students welcomed author Ian McIntosh as part of their Children’s Storybook unit. Students gained valuable insights into developing engaging story ideas, creating interesting characters and structuring narratives.
Mr McIntosh returned during Book Week to judge the students’ completed stories. Congratulations to Elise Gunston, Dyala Salih and Rhien Pennay, who were named winners, and Bradley Dilena, who received the Most Improved award.
Book Week was a wonderful celebration of creativity, literacy and the joy of reading at Ingham High.
