Works Have Begun On Gawara Baya

Preparatory works for the Gawara Baya Project near Mount Fox have begun as of Monday, 12th October, with road and bridge works expected to commence later this month.

The project team has advised that works will take place across the Mount Fox area from October 2026 through to mid-to-late 2027, with the schedule subject to weather, permits and site conditions.

‍

Initial activities will include preparing the project camp site and constructing the site entrance off Mount Fox Road, before progressing to road and bridge works along Lava Plains Mount Fox Road.

‍

Works will occur between 6.30am and 6.30pm, seven days a week, although hours may vary depending on conditions and the nature of the work.

Motorists travelling through the area should expect changed traffic conditions, including temporary traffic lights at the intersection of Gregory Developmental Road and Mount Fox Road. Traffic management will also be in place around work sites, and speed limits may change throughout the project.

‍

The project team has advised that access to private properties is not expected to be affected.

‍

Residents and motorists may also notice increased noise and dust during construction, as well as water trucks travelling between extraction points and work areas via Mount Fox Road and project access routes. Measures will be taken to minimise disruption and manage traffic and dust.

The project team thanked the community for its patience as work progresses to construct Gawara Baya for North Queensland.
