Tully Orchid Society Still Blooming After 50 Years

The Tully Orchid Society has been part of the local community for more than 50 years, and are still blossoming today.  

‍

The club currently has 28 members, with around 15 attending the monthly meetings. August’s gathering was held on Saturday at the Masonic hall, featuring colourful orchids, healthy competition and slice of cake to end the proceedings.  

Club President Patrick Leahy has been leading the society for the past 3 years and says the passion among growers is the heart of the society.

“There’s a lot of orchid enthusiasts out there, it becomes more than hobby it becomes a healthy addiction,” Patrick said.

‍

“We try to make it interactive as well, we try to have a speaker at every meeting.

“I joined to learn and I’m still learning… It’s all about sharing info and ideas for a group of people who are enthusiastic about growing of orchids.

‍

“52 orchids were benched on Saturday with some stunning and rare ones on display.”  

‍

The August meet-up had 14 members attend with each casting a vote for their favourites. Melina Andrijevic won Most Popular Orchid whilst Grace, Linda and Gloria were winners of the novice section.

The Tully Orchid Society meets on the first Saturday of every month (except January) at the Tully Masonic Hall. Membership fee is $15 for the year. For updates head on over to their Facebook page.
