Mission Beach Couple Takes On The Block

Mission Beach has its own team to cheer on this year, with locals Adam and Jolene Wagner making their television debut on the 2026 season of The Block, taking on Australia's toughest home renovation competition.

‍

Although officially competing as Team South Australia, the Mission Beach residents say Far North Queensland will always be home.

"We're incredibly proud to be representing South Australia as it was our home for nearly three years and we absolutely loved our time there," Adam and Jolene said.

‍

"Now that we are back in Mission Beach, it feels amazing to be close to the coast, our family and everything we love about Far North Queensland.

‍

"North Queensland has always been a huge part of who we are. We have spent many years living and working throughout the region, and we love the lifestyle, the people and the strong sense of community that comes with living in the north."

Since premiering on Sunday 2nd August, The Block has already delivered plenty of drama, but behind the scenes the couple faced an equally demanding challenge, adapting to an unfamiliar area while quickly finding contractors capable of keeping pace with the competition's relentless deadlines. With every decision carrying the potential to make or break a room, instinct became one of their greatest assets.

"What surprised us most was just how intense the pressure really is," they said.

"You can watch the show and think you understand it, but until you are living it every day, it is impossible to fully appreciate the pace."

Armed with Adam's building experience and Jolene's background in property management, the pair believed they were well prepared for the challenge. However, they soon discovered nothing could fully prepare them for life on The Block.

"The pressure and time constraints are very real – I cannot stress that enough. We both love working hard; it is in our blood. However, The Block is an absolute beast, and if you let it, it can easily eat you up," Jolene said.

"We discovered that we were even more resilient and determined than we realised. You learn very quickly how to problem-solve, make decisions under pressure and keep pushing forward, even when you are completely exhausted."

‍

Yet for Jolene, the emotional side of the competition proved just as challenging as the renovations themselves.

"Being on The Block had been a dream of mine for such a long time, but driving onto the site for the first time was incredibly overwhelming," she said.

‍

"Having spent so much time living remotely, being surrounded by people all day, every day definitely added to my anxiety. Adam and I are both doers – we like to get in, work hard and get the job done."

‍

Despite the pressure, the couple never lost sight of the opportunity they had been given. Now back in Mission Beach, they're settling into a new home and are eager to begin renovating their own 1980s fixer-upper, this time at their own pace.

"When the season airs, I hope locals enjoy watching the journey and feel proud to have people from Mission Beach representing the community," Jolene said.

"Adam and I really are just average, hardworking Aussies. We hope other middle-aged couples are sitting on their couches thinking, 'If they can do it, maybe we can too.'"
