Member for Hinchinbrook Wayde Chiesa is proud to share that the State Government is recognising the apprentices, trainees, students, teachers and employers building North Queensland’s future, with leading vocational education and training achievers honoured at the 2026 Queensland Training Awards.
The regional final celebrated people choosing practical skills, building rewarding careers and helping deliver the workforce needed to support local industries and economic growth.
The Member for Hinchinbrook said North Queensland relied on a strong pipeline of skilled workers.
“Whether it’s agriculture, construction, manufacturing or the many small businesses across our region, skilled workers are essential to keeping North Queensland moving,” Mr Chiesa said.
“Vocational education gives young people a practical pathway into rewarding careers while building the workforce our local industries need for the future.
“Congratulations to all of our local winners and finalists. It’s fantastic to see people from Hinchinbrook being recognised for the work they’ve put in, and we’ll be cheering them on at the State finals.”
The awards are now in their 65th year and recognise excellence across industries including automotive, business, leadership and management, health, education, community services, and trades by highlighting the people and businesses strengthening local communities and supporting the future workforce.
Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the awards recognised Queenslanders playing a role in building the future of the state.
“These awards celebrate Queenslanders who have chosen to learn a trade, develop new skills or invest in Queensland workers,” Minister Bates said.
“Every apprentice completing their qualification, every employer investing in training and every student choosing vocational education helps build a stronger economy and creates more opportunities for Queenslanders.”
Regional winners now progress to the Queensland state final in September.
