Ingham SHS Open Boys Claim Division 2 Runner-Up Honours

Ingham State High School's Open Rugby League team returned from the Queensland State Schools Cup in Rockhampton as runners-up in Division 2, marking a memorable debut at the state-wide tournament.

Guided by Coach Mark Cockburn, Trainer/Manager Jason Brown, and League Safe Trainer Hunter Winkel, the Ingham High squad proudly represented both their school and the Hinchinbrook community in their first appearance at the competition, which is now in its second year.

Despite opening the tournament with losses to North Rockhampton SHS (28–6) and Bundaberg SHS (44–0), the team showed remarkable resilience, bouncing back with impressive victories over the Barbarians (20–13) and Rockhampton SHS (22–6) to earn a place in the Division 2 Grand Final.

Ingham High fell 18–0 to Yeppoon SHS in the decider, but their determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the week were widely praised.

Individual performances were recognised throughout the tournament, with Jackson Hodge, Matthew Kondisenko, Carter Bates, Nick Stokes and Noah Jones each earning Player of the Match honours. Adding to the school's success, Matthew Kondisenko was also selected in the Queensland State Schools Cup ‘Open Boys Merit Team’.
