Hinchinbrook Shire Council is investing in the success of local businesses through a free Tendering Workshop designed to help suppliers better understand Council procurement processes, strengthen tender submissions, and build confidence when pursuing contracting opportunities.
The workshop has been developed in response to common challenges identified through recent tender processes and aims to support businesses in navigating procurement requirements, from submitting a tender through to delivering on contractual obligations once a contract is awarded.
Representatives from the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning will also deliver a presentation, providing valuable insights and practical resources to help businesses become more competitive when pursuing procurement opportunities.
Participants will learn about the common reasons tender submissions fail before reaching assessment, and how tenders are evaluated, including factors beyond price. Practical tips to improve compliance and strengthen submissions, and resources and tools available to support businesses, alongside the contractual obligations and expectations following contract award.
Chief Executive Officer Mary-Anne Uren said Council wants to see local businesses well positioned to compete for opportunities and contribute to the long-term success.
"Local businesses are the backbone of our community, and we want to support them to put their best foot forward when tendering for Council work," Ms Uren said.
"This workshop is about more than winning contracts. It's about building capability, improving understanding of procurement requirements and ensuring businesses are equipped to meet the contractual and legislative obligations that come with delivering projects and service. Legislative compliance is not optional, and tenderers must meet these requirements to be considered a compliant tenderer.
"By strengthening the knowledge and skills of our local suppliers, we're helping create a stronger, more resilient business community that can compete confidently for opportunities both within the Shire and beyond. When our local businesses succeed, our whole community benefits."
The workshop will be held from 5.00pm to 7.00pm on Monday, 17 August 2026, in the Hinchinbrook Shire Council Chambers, Ingham.
Businesses interested in tendering for Council work are encouraged to attend this valuable upskilling opportunity and register. Places are limited, and early registration is encouraged for catering purposes.
