Delicious delights have been crafted at Gilroy Santa Maria College in abundance recently, thanks to the talents of Hospitality students. From catering opportunities, to creating with colourful imaginations- there’s been plenty of cooks in the kitchen.
Recently Year 11 and 12 students studying the Certificate II in Hospitality, set early alarms to cater for the Year 7 Expo breakfast at the College. The menu saw a variety of flavours and colours incorporating incredible attention to detail.
Before the school holiday break students warmly hosted past Rugby League and Netball players back to the College for a special Alumni event on the Chapel lawn. This presented another opportunity for their culinary skills to shine, going beyond all expectations with outstanding butlered service.
To finish Term 2, Year 9 Food Tech students at GSMC were inspired by the iconic Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book for their Ingham Show entries.
The hard work in the College kitchen paid off, with students placing first, second, third and highly commended for their entries. This enthusiasm saw the Ingham Show Society receive a record number of secondary school submissions.
As the only school in the Hinchinbrook Shire offering a Certificate II in Hospitality, this vocational education pathway will open doors for students to gain employment across the Hospitality and Tourism industries.
We can’t wait to see what’s created next in the state-of-the-art industrial training facility that is the Gilroy Santa Maria College kitchen.
