Council Urges Residents To Help Keep Bin Collections Running Smoothly

Hinchinbrook Shire Council is reminding residents to ensure their bins are correctly presented for collection, warning that bins may not be serviced if they cannot be collected safely.

To avoid missed collections, residents are encouraged to place their bins out the night before, or before 5.30am on collection day. Bins should be positioned on flat ground near the kerb with the handles facing the property and at least one metre clear of parked vehicles, trees, power poles, signs and other obstacles. Where multiple bins are presented, they should be spaced at least half a metre apart.

Council also advises that bins should not be overloaded or contain items protruding from the top, as the lid must be able to close completely. Hoses, ropes, cords and leads should be cut into lengths of less than one metre before being placed in the bin to prevent them from becoming tangled in collection machinery.

Residents are also reminded to ensure only accepted recyclable materials are placed in recycling bins to help prevent contamination and improve recycling outcomes.

Council said following these simple steps helps collection crews work safely and efficiently while reducing the likelihood of bins being missed on collection day.
