Community Invited To Learn About Halifax Rifle Range Drain Works

The Herbert River Improvement Trust is inviting community members to attend an information session on upcoming works at the Halifax Rifle Range Drain on Friday 21st August.

‍

The session will provide an opportunity for residents, farmers and other community members to learn more about planned drain desilting and remediation works, as well as the broader approach being taken to improve drainage throughout the local area.

The project aims to deliver benefits for both farming and urban areas, with works expected to improve water quality, fish connectivity, landscape management and drainage outcomes.

Project staff and technical experts will be available during the session to answer questions and discuss how the works will be delivered.

The initiative forms part of the Herbert Integrated Project, which is working across the Herbert catchment to improve water quality, flood management, sediment control and farm productivity.

The Herbert Integrated Project is funded through the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reef Water Quality Program and delivered by Terrain NRM in partnership with the Hinchinbrook River Improvement Trust, Hinchinbrook Shire Council, Herbert Cane Productivity Services Ltd, Canegrowers Herbert River, JCU TropWATER, QCAR, AgForce and the Department of Primary Industries.

Community members are encouraged to attend and find out more about how the upcoming works will contribute to a whole-of-system approach to local drainage management.
