Babinda Teacher Named Teacher Of The Year

St Rita's School, Babinda, has been busy celebrating after one of its own was named Primary Teacher of the Year at the prestigious 2026 Docemus Awards held over the weekend.

Mrs Maryjane Masina received the honour during Catholic Education Week after being selected from nine nominees in the Primary School Teacher category at the ceremony hosted by St Mary’s Catholic College in Cairns.

Since its inception in 2002, the Docemus Awards, meaning "to teach", have recognised the outstanding commitment, achievements and contributions of staff, volunteers and supporters across Catholic education.

Held annually, the awards celebrate excellence across seven categories, including Primary Teacher, Secondary Teacher, Early Career Teacher, Leadership, School Officer, Volunteer and Lifelong Contribution.

Sharing the news on social media, St Rita's School congratulated Mrs Masina on the achievement.

"Congratulations Mrs Maryjane Masina. We are so proud. Teacher of the Year 2026. So well deserved," the school wrote.

As part of the award, recipients receive a professional development grant to support their continued growth and excellence in education.
