A sausage sizzle, a cool drink and a friendly conversation brought locals together at Anzac Memorial Park as the Australian Red Cross teamed up with the Hinchinbrook Local Disaster Management Group, Queensland Health and the Ingham Lions Club to promote wet season preparedness, mental health support and community connection, particularly for Ingham’s most vulnerable residents.

Held on Tuesday 13th October, the free community event aimed to help residents, particularly those experiencing housing instability, prepare for the months ahead. The event provided practical advice, answered questions and highlighted the importance of being ready for cyclones, floods and severe storms, especially for people who may have limited access to resources or support.

‍

Representatives from the Australian Red Cross and Queensland Health also set up information tables, sharing useful resources and goodie bags while offering advice.

The event demonstrated the value of community support in its simplest form.

Sometimes, looking after one another starts with a snag in the park.
