Award winning singer Damien Leith is set to bring a very special show to Ingham, showcasing the wonderful music of Roy Orbison. This show however, is far more than just a tribute, encompassing the music of Orbison’s circle such as the Travelling Wilburys as well as special new tracks co-written with Joe Melson – Roy Orbison’s long-time collaborator. The show is a long time in the making and was formed through incredible circumstances, as an Australian Idol performance of Orbison’s song ‘Crying’, attracted the attention of his widow all the way in Nashville. This led to a series of life-changing events in which Damien was ingratiated into Orbison’s inner circle. “She called me and said she liked my version. She liked how I made it my own. Three years later she asked me to fly over to Nashville to record an album of his songs in my style to celebrate what would have been his 75th birthday”, said Damien. “It was a huge honour. I got to work with a whole bunch of people associated with Roy Orbison.” As he got acquainted with Orbison’s circle, Damien met Joe Melson, co-writer of some of Orbison’s biggest hits. The two begun a fruitful collaboration, writing songs that are set to appear on the new tour. “We’ve written a bunch of songs. When people hear it, they get a sense of that era of music, but it also has a new spin”. The performance is a special solo acoustic showcase. One voice, one guitar, and one incredible repertoire. “The stripped back nature of the show grants a lot of freedom in the performance. It’s weird – I’ve done shows with a full orchestra but at the same time I found I’m enjoying myself more in these really intimate settings”. New to the region, Damien is incredibly excited to perform in Ingham for the first time. “I’ve grown up in regional areas. The reception to music is always really good. Really wholesome.” Speaking to Damien, we reflected on the amazing legacy of Roy Orbison, as his music continues to receive praise six decades after it was released. “People still buy CDs. They still come to shows. There are loads of people playing his stuff in different formats. He has a unique voice, and his songwriting was so different.” Damien Leith promises a night you won’t forget. The calendar has ticked over to March and rehearsals are well underway for the Ingham Theatre Group’s first offering of 2026. “In Good Audience” is the moniker for a collection of short plays and sketches sure to tickle the collective funny bone. Familiar faces will be joined by some enthusiastic newcomers to present a variety of content with the unifying theme of good fun. For the first time, the production heads out to Forrest Beach and the spacious Progress Hall with evening performances on Friday, March 27th and Saturday, March 28th commencing at 7pm and a first-ever matinee on the Saturday at 2pm. Doors will open an hour before commencement, and refreshments will be available. Tickets are available online at hinchinbrooktickets.com.au and at the door. Adult entrance is $20 and the student, senior and concession price a mere $10. And, as one character remarks in the first play – the best part of going to the theatre is that there are no ads! Except, perhaps, a reminder that the ever-popular theatre restaurant season will return in August so there is more fun to look forward to. See you at the show!

In an age where identity, expression, and individuality are constantly evolving, art remains one of the most powerful tools for exploring the human experience. The upcoming Androgyny exhibition at TYTO Regional Art Gallery invites viewers into a space where the boundaries of gender, self, and aesthetic are challenged and re-imagined through compelling contemporary works.
Opening on May 16, this evocative exhibition brings together a diverse group of artists who each offer their own interpretation of androgyny, whether that be through surreal landscapes, impressionist strokes, multimedia innovation, or photographic exploration. Featuring the artistic works by David Rowe, Paula Jade Grioli, Helen Thrift-Brooks, Ann Vardanega and Mitch Lynn, all presenting striking takes that blur traditional binaries with quiet intensity and bold expression.
Androgyny, by its nature, resists easy definition. It lives in the spaces between, whether biological, expressive, or emotional. It asks us to look beyond surface and stereotype and instead see the spectrum of human experience in all its glory. This exhibition is not just a showcase of visual artistry, it’s an invitation to reconsider assumptions, engage with difference, and celebrate the richness of individuality.
Whether you're an art enthusiast, a curious observer, or someone passionate about gender and culture, 'Androgyny' promises a thought-provoking journey. This exhibition's opening night is a free event, but bookings are essential for catering purposes. Get your tickets via the hinchinbrookticket website or by scanning the QR Code. If you cant make opening night, know that the exhibition runs until 14 June 2025.

WHEN: Opening Night Friday 16 May 2025, 6:00pm – 9:00pm | Exhibition runs until June 14th.

If you’re a lover of all things extraterrestrial, the weekend extending from the 8th to the 10th of August has most likely been bolded, outlined, highlighted and set aside for a few months now in anticipation of the infamous Cardwell UFO Festival!
2024 heartbreakingly did not stage the beloved event, however following on from December’s confirmation 2025’s weekend of intergalactic mayhem will go ahead, waves of excitement have continued to build across the community and into the stratosphere.
Over the course of three celestial days in early August, crafts of locals from far and wide will land in Cardwell to experience a plethora of intergalactic attractions and events including a cosmically mind-boggling C-Files Forum!
In years gone by, the C-Files Forum for the Unexplained has hosted international guest speakers covering topics including personal stories of alien encounters, conspiracy theories, alien communications, modern research, mysterious phenomena and more over the entire weekend to a captive audience filled with inquisitive minds.
In early January, the Cardwell UFO Festival Committee asked the public to list the extraterrestrial topics they would love to discuss ahead of 2025’s event and the results were nothing short of interdimensional.
Interferences from those in positions of power within the United States political sphere seem to fuel a galaxy of conspiracies along with the advancements of drones, and figures like Dolores Cannon and Tracey Taylor have also been asked to take the microphone. With a solidified line up yet to be announced, enthusiasts are invited to comment which topics they would like to hear discussed on the Cardwell UFO Festival’s social media pages.
Cardwell as a township has been marked an intergalactic hot spot and has been recognised across the nation following years of unexplainable sightings and alien activity. Publishments dating back to the 1960s detailing close encounters, crop circles, and the notorious “Cardwell Lights” have landed Cardwell on the map and into the history books, making the seaside community an ideal host for the unique celestial celebration.
With specific details and the festival’s full program yet to be announced, all eyes are on www.cardwellufofestival.com.au and the event’s social media pages, with enthusiasts holding out until the only UFO Festival in Australia makes its triumphant return.
What: Cardwell UFO Festival
When: 8th to the 10th of August

The event was well attended and the sun was shining, making it a wonderful afternoon filled with colour, and smiles.
“To have the kids be a part of something that's going to be here for such a long time is great,” said Lavinia.
“They can come down, see it and go - 'I painted that part!' - It gives them ownership of something that's going to be here for such a long time and they can be proud of it.
“It's such a great way to brighten everyone's day. We had a lot of rain around, so it's nice to have the sunshine and a beautiful day, get everyone out the house and come and do something a little bit different.”
Art by Lavinia has done a number of different murals in the region, including Taylors Beach, Lucinda, Halifax and Ingham.
Lavinia has painted murals for 10 years and said she likes bringing places to life through her art, but above all she loves community projects.
“I love involving the community. I studied community development, and I really like working with everybody involved, so we can get a project that everyone can be proud of.”
