A much-loved piece of Mission Beach history will celebrate its silver anniversary this month, with the Ulysses Link marking 25 years since opening in September 2001.
The foreshore walking track grew from local resident Penny Phillips’ vision to create a walking and cycling link connecting Mission Beach’s coastal communities.
A community steering group began developing the idea in 1998, with the project eventually becoming a joint community and council initiative.
Named after the brilliant blue Ulysses butterfly, the original link winds along the Mission Beach foreshore towards Clump Point, incorporating mosaics, carvings and ceramic sculptures that share the area’s cultural, historical and environmental stories.
The link has continued to grow over the years, with almost 12 kilometres of the original near-20-kilometre vision completed by 2023.
The community will celebrate the milestone in Mission Beach on Saturday 26th September
The event will take place at Perry Harvey Jetty, with start time to be confirmed.
