Temperatures at Mission Beach Cricket Club hit a high of 31 degrees at midday on Saturday, with the sun beating down on the young cricketers.
While the local team secured a hard-fought home-ground victory over the Innisfail Monsoons, their game day elations were no match for hot and humid conditions.
Fortunately, Mission Beach Fire Station crews came to the rescue, with firefighters Leith and Lucy, pulling in to provide a quick hose down.
Within minutes the young sportsters swapped stumps and bats for a refreshing dip under the cool waters of the fire truck’s hose.
“Thank you to Firefighter Leith and Lucy from Mission Beach Fire Station for helping us cool off after the game,” Mission Beach Cricket Club stated via Facebook.
While fire trucks are essential for emergency situations, the community work they do is also important. From attending school fairs to community events – and even the odd sporting game – these everyday heroes deserve a shout out this week.
Thanks for all you do, both on and off the cricket pitch!
