Cassowary Coast residents are being encouraged to clear out their cupboards, sheds and spare rooms as Australia’s biggest secondhand treasure hunt returns for what is proposed to be its final Garage Sale Trail.
After 16 years of helping Australians turn unwanted items into someone else’s treasures, the Garage Sale Trail Foundation is preparing for one final, nationwide celebration of secondhand shopping, selling and re-loving the pre-loved.
The 2026 event will take place across two weekends, 7th-8th & 14th-15th November, with residents able to participate on one day or across multiple days.
Residents, schools, clubs and community groups can take part for free, whether they want to host a garage sale, join a local market, shop for bargains or do a bit of everything.
The trail provides an opportunity to clear out unwanted items and make some extra money ahead of Christmas, while giving useful goods a second life rather than sending them to landfill.
The event aims to make it easy, with participants receiving access to free how-to guides, promotional materials and support.
The final trail is expected to be a big one, with more than 120 councils supporting the event nationwide alongside presenting partner Grow It Local, Queensland Environment, the Australian Men’s Shed Association and the Australian Neighbourhood Houses & Centres Association.
Residents are being encouraged to start sorting now and register their planned garage sale.
