Mission Beach will mark World Cassowary Day 2026 with a community celebration walk on Sunday 20th September, inviting locals to explore the area's natural and cultural history.
The morning will begin at 8:30am at Perry Harvey Jetty, with a Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Traditional Owners before participants set out along the Cutten Brothers Track.
The walk will offer an opportunity to explore the rainforest landscape synonymous with the Cassowary Coast while celebrating the region's iconic southern cassowary.
Organisers advise the track can be challenging, with trip hazards, muddy sections and the possibility of cassowary encounters, and is not suitable for wheelchairs.
