What's On At The Library These Holidays?

Hinchinbrook Shire Library

When the school bell rings for the last time this year, parents everywhere ask the same question: “How do we keep the kids entertained without breaking the bank?” Hinchinbrook Shire Library has the answer and it’s bursting with creativity, curiosity, and a dash of holiday magic.

From Monday 15 December 2025 through Saturday 24 January 2026, the library will swap its quiet corners for a whirlwind of fun. Think of it as a passport to adventure and no flights required!

The program kicks off with Summer Reading Club Fun, a celebration of stories that will whisk young readers away to worlds where dragons roam and heroes triumph. It’s the perfect way to spark imaginations before the festive season takes over.

But that’s just the first chapter. Every day, the library will hum with arts and crafts, games, LEGO building, and even an interactive projector that turns learning into play. For the tech-savvy and the curious, robotics workshops will let kids build and program their own creations — because who wouldn’t want to say they made a robot over the holidays?

Science lovers can peer into the microscopic world with Discovery Microscope, while budding engineers will get their hands on STEAM activities, from BRIO STEM Builder kits to an Architecture Kit that could inspire the next Frank Lloyd Wright. And for the littlest learners, First 5 Forever Playtime offers gentle, joyful sessions designed for early development.

Of course, no holiday program is complete without a little movie magic. Families can snuggle in for screenings of Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas and Hoodwinked, turning the library into a cozy cinema for a few hours.

And if music is more your beat, the Double Daws Recording Studio workshop will pull back the curtain on how songs are made—perfect for kids who dream of hitting the charts.

The grand finale? A Summer Reading Club Party on Friday, 23 January 2026, complete with a Friendship Bracelet Workshop to send kids back to school with handmade treasures and big smiles.

While the kids are busy creating, learning, and laughing, parents can take advantage of Services Australia drop-in sessions for practical help with Centrelink, Medicare, and more. It’s a win-win: fun for the kids, peace of mind for the grown-ups.

Best of all? Every single activity is FREE. No bookings, no stress — just turn up and dive in.

So, pack away the “I’m bored” chorus and make Hinchinbrook Shire Library your holiday headquarters. Because this summer, the best stories aren’t just in books — they’re happening right here.
