The Tully & District Chamber of Commerce is inviting local families to mark their calendars, with the much-loved Read to Me Day returning on Tuesday, 11th August.
A longstanding community tradition, Read to Me Day has been bringing together children, books and local businesses for many years, transforming Tully's main street into a vibrant celebration of storytelling and community spirit.
Tully & District Chamber of Commerce Treasurer Abbie Webster said the Chamber was delighted to once again host the event and continue a tradition cherished by generations of local families.
"Ask any business in Tully that has participated, and they will tell you just how much they love preparing for this event every year," Ms Webster said.
Running over approximately three hours on a school morning, the event sees Prep to Year 2 students visit a series of reading stations hosted by local businesses along Butler Street. Guided by teachers, students move from one station to the next as volunteers and business owners bring stories to life.
"It's an opportunity for the kids to get out of the classroom for one morning and interact with their local community in a way that they might not otherwise do so," Ms Webster said.
More than simply a literacy event, Read to Me Day celebrates the strong connection between schools, families and local businesses.
"Read to Me Day is really important for the community, and especially the children, because not only are we introducing local kids to local community, but we're fostering a love and an interest in reading within the kids."
Ms Webster said the event would not be possible without the support of participating schools and businesses, many of whom go above and beyond each year by creating engaging displays and volunteering their time.
"To families and schools thinking about coming along to Read to Me Day, the Chamber would love to welcome you to this year's event, and we hope that all in attendance thoroughly enjoy the day."
