Birdie Flies Into Tully To Teach Little Ones About Natural Disasters

Birdie fluttered her wings and arrived into Lower Tully State School, Kennedy State School, and Cardwell State School this week, as Council’s Community Recovery and Resilience Officer delivered Birdie’s Tree books & plushies to support conversations about growing together through natural disasters.

Birdie’s Tree is an award winning set of storybooks, videos and resources created by the Queensland Centre for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health (QCPIMH), in which Birdie and Frog learn about different natural disasters and find out how to cope and recover from stressful events.

The picture books were designed to provide children with the opportunity to learn about natural disasters in an age-appropriate way, exploring their feelings, and building  resilience during challenging times.

Kennedy State School thanked the council for the delivery:

“They will be a great addition to our library and support our students when we are learning about natural disasters,” a spokesperson shared.
